Comments:
Pack or Patrick G. is not shown with the family in the 1860 census
of TN.
Did he take off for parts unknown?
Did he marry?
Ronny indicates that Patrick Gibson Smithson served for the
Confederacy as a
Capt. in Co., H, 20th TN INF. He served until he was wounded
severely in the
knee by canister balls at Chickamauga. He was never fit for duty
after that
and after the war was over he served as the commandant of the
Confederate
Soldiers Home near Andrew Jackson's home, the Hermitage. "Capt.
Pack" died
there with his old comrades before the turn of the century.
