Escar Knott Smithson [Parents] was born in Sep 1881 in Flat Creek, Williamson, Tennessee. He was buried on 30 Sep 1951 in Mount Hope Cemetary, Franklin, Williamson, Tennessee. He married Josephine Meek in Aug 1909 in Williamson, Tennessee.

!Notes:
Esra was age 18 in 1900 and Escar W. was age 28 in 1910.
Following the parents' death, the farm was sold and the estate
settled and
divided among the eight surviving children. Each child received a
sum of $13.
Escar was very proud of the fact that during his lifetime, he never
had less
than his inheritance of $13.
Escar Knott Smithson went to live with his uncle Tom and Mattie
Smithson's
family after his parents died in 1896. He grew up knowing his
cousins better
than his own brothers and sisters. At a very young age, Escar
became indepen-
dant by farming out to other families in the community, living in
the homes of
[Carroll] Mayhew Smithson, the Moseley and [Henry] Lester families.
During
these years he learned many trades such as carpentry, blacksmithing
and
horsemanship and was an accomplished farmer.
He and Josie lived at the Mosely place on Flat Creek after they
married,
where the first three children were born. They then moved to the Arno
community where the others were born.
