been about 26-27 years old at the time. If he is the son of Nathaniel B. (b.

his marriage or have returned to VA for his marriage. In any case, he does not
show as a head of household in TN until 1840.

Sarah Wood Johnson "Sally" was born about 1797 in , Virginia. She died in 1860/1870. She married Stephen Smithson on 7 May 1824 in , Lunenburg, Virginia.

HISTORY: [with photograph of Marshall and Minnie]
Marshall and Minnie moved to Hurricane Mills in Dec. of 1906 from
Bold
Springs, Tenn. Marshall carried a rural mail rounte out of
Hurricane Mills from
1907 through 1912. Marshall was not only a mail carrier but he
would bring
watches, clocks, guns, sewing machines etc., home to repair for
customers and
friends on his route. He knew the different kinds of trees and
would make
whistles, bows and arrows, puzzles, furniture etc., out of them. He
also was a
muscian. He could play most any instrument except violin and piano.
He led
singing at the churches he attended, he was a member of the Masonic
lodge and
the WOW lodge and wnt through the chairs in both lodges at Hurricane
Mills.
Marshall was an avid hunter and fisherman. On Thanksgiving day he
would go
bird hunting in the eastern section of the county and bring a grass
sack more
than half full of birds that they had shot. He was good at treating
animals
with minor illnes and could train dogs to hunt.
Marshall left Humphreys County at the end of 1913 and moved to
Hickman County
Ky., near Clinton where he helped build and repair houses for
several years,
then moved back to Crutchfield, Ky., where he ran a blacksmith shop,
then to
Millington, Tenn., to work on the Millington Army Base, then on to
Wilson Dam
in Alabama, then to Nashville, Tenn., in May 1918 to work at
building the
DuPont Powder plant, then to Norris, Tenn., to work on the Norris
Dam, then
back to Nashville to help build houses.
He was a clean Christian man, physically and mentally, no one ever
heard him
use bad language or tell a dirty joke.
Nine children were born to Marshall and Minnie, only four living
[in 1983].
