He is shown as "Nathan" and is age 36 in 1850. An Eliza Smithson,
age 25,
a James H. Smithson, age 10 and a Mary Smithson, age 9 months are
also in the
1850 household. What are the relationships? Probably need to read
the film.
Where are they in 1860?
The 1870 census shows a Nat Smithson with a wife Margaret. Is
this the same
Nathaniel? If so, he may have married another wife. The presence
of a Levi
Gant (Garrett?) born in NC and Margaret's birthplace of NC suggests
that her
name is Gant and that Levi may be her father.

Smithson,
born in Lunenburg Co., VA or Charlotte Co., VA, I just can't
recall
right now which county in 1814, April 25th and died Jan. 16,
1892. He
had four brothers, Spot, Buck, Ephraim and Ned (Edwin), and
two sisters
Sarah and Anne. There were others that died in infancy.
His father's name was Richard Lewis Smithson and his
mother's maiden
name was Polly Cox.
His grand father's name was Bartley Smithson, but I have no
record of
the date of his birth and death, and where he was born, but I
can find
out these things.
My father was married twice, the first time to Charlotte
Lester and by
this marriage there were two children, Mary Susan and William
Richard.
The second time he married Caroline Johnson and by this
marriage there
were seven children, Samuel, Emma Lee, Lucy James, Anna
Elizabeth (the
writer of Ohio) Addie Virginia, Charlie Ephraim, and Edwin
Benjamin.
