John and Eliza obtained a certificate from Stuart MM to attend the Church of God in Morrisburg, IA.

There is a J. C. Smitleson listed as a farmer near Stuart in 1892 as listed in the Iowa Farmers Directory from that year. It is believed that the surname was misspelled and/or misread and that the person listed is actually John C. Smithson (TBH)

Comments:
1860 census indicates that he was born in OH, not IN.
Roxie says he married his brother's widow Maria L. Cummins Smithson in 1909, yet the obituary says he married only twice and the second wife was Ella Myers who he married in 1925. If he married his brother's wife--they must have divorced since Maria lives to 1942 or so.

Marriage to Maria ended in divorce. (TBH)
